The Nexus Player may be making a comeback

Late last month Google confirmed what we already suspected: it was done selling the Nexus Player. But just a couple of weeks later a refreshed version of the Asus-made Android TV box has surfaced, suggesting an upgraded version could be on the way.

Asus recently made some updates to its 2014 FCC filing for the original Nexus Player. It’s nothing major, but some of internal antennas and circuits have been tweaked. It’s possible the company also upgraded the processor or other important specs, which don’t need to be listed in FCC filings.

Regardless, this seems to be a pretty clear sign the Nexus Player could be making a comeback, which might also explain why Google stopped selling the original model. Then again, it’s also possible the filing represents a planned upgrade that’s already been canceled. We won’t know for sure until Google makes an official announcement.
