Porsche finally officially unveiled the car it refused to acknowledge, the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, with official claimed specs: 211 mph top speed, 700 horsepower and (naturally) rear-wheel drive. Also it will be more civilized than its predecessor. Wait, how?
The last GT2 RS made 612 horsepower, ran to 205 miles per hour and was about as close as Porsche ever seemed to want to go to revisiting its old ‘widowmaker’ reputation.

But that car had a three-pedal manual transmission and was built almost for revenge. The 2010 car’s internal code was Project 727, after the Nissan GT-R’s 7:27 lap of the Nürburgring, a record Porsche felt belonged in its own hands. The car had to be brutally fast. Whether or not the car was easy to use was secondary.
But this new GT2 RS, while it has more power and a higher top speed, it does get a 7-speed double-clutch PDK transmission. This is a two-pedal car. Easy.
Our own Kristen Lee was present at this car’s official unveiling at Goodwood today and said the car sounds awesome, looks very menacing with its contrasting black trim and that its 325-section rear tires are incredibly big.

This is a real deal performance car for sure. Do not be fooled by its gigantic rear exhaust holes.
Porsche also says that the new GT2 RS gets a titanium exhaust and carbon fiber seats. Somehow, this is supposed to be part of a car that’s more “comfortable” than the old GT2 RS.
I genuinely have no idea it’d be possible to be comfortable in a car with carbon buckets, a howling titanium exhaust and a rear wing so ostentatious you might as well have a megaphone mounted on it screaming ‘I HAVE A DIGITAL TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE AND I AM PREPARED TO USE IT.’ It casts a shadow larger than Belgium. It is just big enough to have tea and cookies on.
What kind of comfort that allows I do not know.
