This Bizarre Rebodied Corvette Might Be My Perfect Car

I have a variety of conflicting opinions about who I am and what I want that lead me up to the door, but never into the home of the Chevrolet Corvette. Except then there’s this thing.

You’re looking at the Bertone Ramarro. It is a 1984 concept car, based on the then-new C4 Corvette.

It’s the same Chevy small block V8 up front, rear-drive at the back, same basic chassis.

As you can see in these pictures and design sketches preserved at the excellent CarStyling.ru, the difference is it has a lighter, shorter body, ridiculous exotic car doors, and what looks like the most comfortable interior ever designed.

I love the idea of the Corvette because it’s simple and conceivably something that I, an ordinary person without a great mastery of automotive mechanics or the funds to pay someone much better, could own. But a regular Corvette is too big, too normal, too not-me.

But this concept car is something in the middle, and it stirs a strange feeling within me. It is a refined exotic, and yet it is also a brute burnout machine. It exists on both of these planes simultaneously. It is both cultured and crude at once. It is a vision.

I must go to it.
