Twitter is “considering” letting users edit tweets

Good new for our readers who use Twitter: the social network is actually considering rolling out one of the most-requested features ever. CEO Jack Dorsey recently asked his followers what they’d like to see added to the network and, after responses flooded in asking for the ability to edit tweets, he responded.

“Is it more important to edit for spelling/corrections? 5 minute window to edit mistakes or do you need to be able to edit anytime?” Dorsey said. “We’re thinking a lot about it.”

That’s huge. If I make a mistake while tweeting, a typo for example, I usually have to go back and delete it, type it out again, and post it. That means folks who noticed the first tweet now see two, one with the typo and one with the original. If Twitter just gave us a few minutes to make an edit, it would cut down on duplicates and a lot of the mess.

It’s important for Twitter to have a finite editing window, I think. Otherwise, folks who once tweeted silly things can go back in time and edit them, as if their mistakes never happened. Sure, they could just go back and delete them, as is the case now, but I think editing is even worse. What say you?
