Watch The New Corvette ZR1 Dust A Dodge Demon At The Drag Strip

The 808 horsepower Dodge Challenger Demon is basically good for one thing, ripping insanely quick quarter mile times. As this drag battle with Chevy’s new Corvette ZR1 shows, sometimes there is more to victory than what is on a spec sheet.

The folks over at Carscoops got spotted a video of a quarter mile showdown between the Dodge Demon and a new Corvette ZR1. The Dodge has the horsepower advantage and is practically purpose-built for this type of competition. But this time the supercharged 755 hp Corvette walks away with the win with almost violent acceleration off the line.

Carscoops does say that the ZR1 was on drag slicks and it appears that the Demon was not set up in optimal drag mode since it did not have the skinny tires on the front. It’s easy to look at the advantages and disadvantages of each car to determine why one would win over the other, but that takes away a key component in drag racing, the driver.

Any real racer knows that drag racing is more than just mashing a pedal and keeping a car straight. Having a reaction time that is a fraction of a second better than your competitor and it’s possible to overcome a car with a modest performance advantage.

With different drivers and a different setup, the Demon may have won, but it’s pretty clear that this Corvette pilot can lay down some super quick times as well.
