You can now get a 5-foot tall statue of Kojima Productions’ mascot, for some reason

Ludens, the space-faring mascot of Hideo Kojima’s new studio, Kojima Productions, is now available to purchase as a premium model. Where most models are scaled in eights, sixteenths, and thirty-seconds, though, this first Ludens model is half-scale. That means that, including his flag, he clocks in at 63″ tall, or just a half-foot shorter than your average American male. And the cost?

Oh, just $1999.99.

In addition to being taller than a significant portion of the Earth’s population, the statue carries the Kojima Productions flag and has LED lighting in its helmet. The run is limited to 150 units – that seems like it’ll be more than enough – and each one will be signed by Hideo Kojima.

Kojima Productions paired with Sideshow Collectibles and Prime 1 Studio to create the statue, and it’s set to ship sometime in early 2018.

That’s a bold strategy

Kojima is a beloved creator in the gaming community, but even so, releasing a half-scale is a bold move for the company. If Death Stranding ends up disappointing, then any collectors who decide to pick this up (are there really 150 people who want this monster?) will have a $2,000 piece of memorabilia for something they have no emotional connection to. It’s that much more pressure on Kojima Productions to do something creative and memorable their first time out. If anyone can do memorable, it’s Kojima, but it’s still a tough spot for a studio in its infancy to be in.

Meanwhile, Kojima Productions’ first game, Death Stranding, doesn’t yet have a release date.
