AMC to air new series about the history of comic books

A show about comic books from the person who helped create TV’s most successful show based on a comic book? That’s the hook for AMC’s new docuseries, which will explore the history of comics with the help of The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.

Known as Heroes and Villains: The History of Comic Books, the six-episode hourlong series will “explore the stories, people and events that transformed the comic book industry,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. With comic book culture at an all-time high, it’s a wonder something like this didn’t happen sooner.

It makes sense the series found a home on AMC. In addition to The Walking Dead, the channel is also home to Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men and Preacher, the latter of which will begin airing this Sunday.

“At the end of the day I am a comic fan first and foremost,” Kirkman said. “I am a lover of the medium and the stories it enables people to tell. I’m excited to partner with AMC once again to bring the stories of some of the most influential people in comics to a television audience.”

No exact premiere date has been set though you can expect the show to hit in 2017.
