Android N 3D Touch function ain’t happenin’ soon, report says

Google is set to reveal a lot more about its incoming Android N update at next week’s I/O conference, but one major rumored feature may not make an appearance onstage. Recode reports that the company’s expected 3D Touch competitor has been delayed internally.

Inside sources tell the tech blog that Google’s pressure-sensitive feature will arrive later on, possibly as a smaller maintenance update. The feature was spotted in an Android N preview last month, and some developers were even able to get it to work. However, the company never officially promised to include it in the next version of Android.

A number of Android phones already offer 3D Touch-style capabilities. However, each company uses a different technology, making it difficult for third-party developers to support the feature on multiple devices. If Google is able to introduce native Android support for the feature, it would make competing with Apple’s iPhone a lot easier for Android phone-makers.
