Apple is betting big on fixing Siri

Apple knows Siri needs some serious work. It falls short compared to other search assistants available. The company certainly doesn’t want to be left behind, either, and by all accounts AI is the future of computing. Google has Google Assistant, Microsoft has Cortana, even Amazon has Alexa which works surprisingly well.

Apple looks to be making an effort to fix Siri. It has been snatching up a handful of firms that are involved in the field. The company just hired Carnegie Mellon University professor Russ Salakhutdinov to lead the AI research team. Salakhutdinov made the announcement in a recent tweet. Apple isn’t done with just the one hire either. It’s looking to hire a bunch of research scientists in the fields of “deep learning, machine learning and artificial intelligence”.

Excited about joining Apple as a director of AI research in addition to my work at CMU. Apply to work with my teamhttps://t.co/U2hQl2GdhA

Siri isn’t great, but she’ll get better.

Apple knows it needs to focus AI efforts behind Siri, especially since computing and home automation relies heavily on the technology. It appears Apple is investing quite a bit of money on AI and we hope that means a much improved version of the personal assistant for end users.
