Ben Affleck undecided on solo Batman movie

Ben Affleck’s Batman, love him or hate him, is going to be a huge part of the DC Cinematic Universe, but whether or not he’ll appear in his own movie is still up in the air. There have been plenty of rumors suggesting the Dark Knight could potentially feature in a new trilogy written and directed by Affleck himself. But when asked about this possibility, the actor, who directed Argo and Gone Baby Gone, seemed hesitant to commit.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Affleck said he’s focused on finishing Live By Night, but after that’s done he’ll assess his next move.

“So, when I’m finished with [Live By Night], I’ll then focus on my next movie and figure out what that will be,” Affleck explained.

Affleck’s Batman is definitely showing up in Justice League Part 1 and Justice League Part 2, and we’ve seen him appear in the Suicide Squad trailer. But a solo outing? I’m sure Affleck knows more than he’s letting on. And let’s not kid ourselves, if Warner Bros. wants it to happen, I’m sure the studio will be willing to pay him handsomely.

If something were to happen, it would likely take place ahead of where we find him in Batman v Superman, perhaps dealing with the Death in the Family storyline, which is hinted at with the Robin suit Batman has on display.

EW goes on to talk more deeply about how Batman v Superman is the jumping off point for an expanded universe, one where we’ll see Cyborg, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and maybe even Green Lantern, but we might not actually see the character(s) until Justice League Part 2. Additionally, EW says Jena Malone’s role in Batman v Superman had to be cut for time but she will show up in the extended cut that’s been discussed already.

Whether Batman v Superman is capable of starting a cinematic universe akin to Marvel’s is up for debate, but it’s clear Warner Bros. is giving it the ole college try. For more, check out the source link below.
