We’ve known for a while that the revival of Twin Peaks, David Lynch’s weird and supernatural murder mystery from the early 90s, would be returning sometime this year, and most likely sometime this spring. But now we have a month, a day, and a time we can mark on our calendars. If you haven’t watched Twin Peaks or you plan to rewatch it before the show starts, you’ve got about four and a half months. Twin Peaks premieres on Showtime on May 21, 2017, at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Showtime CEO David Nevins revealed a few details when speaking at the Television Critics Association conference this week – no, not about the plot, but about how the show will air. After calling the show the “pure heroin version of David Lynch,” Nevins said the full season consists of 18 hours of show, beginning with a two-hour premiere. That’s four hours of new Twin Peaks in one night. Whether there will be other double, triple, or quadrule doses of black-as-midnight coffee and heavenly pie further into the season, so it’s unclear just how many episodes the show will be. But a little mystery isn’t a bad thing.

David Lynch spoke as well, saying that the prequel film, Fire Walk With Me, does indeed play a role in the show and that neither he nor the network have any plans to take the show past the 18-episode limited run.

Twin Peaks originally aired from 1990 to 1991 on ABC. Stars of the original, such as Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee, will be returning to reprise their roles from the original series when it airs this May. Fire Walk With Me debuted in 1992, a year after the show’s cancellation.
