Consumers in the UK can noworderfrom Domino’s Pizza using Amazon’s voice-based virtual assistant, Alexa, on Echo devices, according to The Street.

With this move, the pizza chain, which launched its Alexa skill in the US a year earlier, only adds to Domino’s long list of digital offerings.

Domino’s has placed a lot of emphasis on its digital ordering channels, which has proved to be a very effective strategy for the company.

  • The chain has been aggressive in integrating its services with popular platforms to offer consumers convenient ordering options. Besides enabling ordering through the Echo, Domino’s alsoallows its customers to order from popular platforms like Facebook Messenger, Google Home, Twitter, Samsung Smart TV, Ford Sync, Apple Watch, as well as via emoji, to name a few. By letting its consumers interact with the company via a plethora of platforms, where they spend a lot of time, Domino’s can better target its customers based on their preferences, and in turn drive up sales.
  • These features have furthered Domino’s digital success. Domino’s has generated an estimated $5.6 billion in global digital sales in 2016, an increase of 19% from 2015. For context, total global sales were $10.9 billion in 2016 and $9.9 billion in 2015, pointing to the massive significance of digital. The company will likely continue to benefit as it introduces more digital offerings and expands these capabilities internationally.

A revolution in payments and banking is beginning as virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa gain the abilities of cashiers, personal shoppers, and bank tellers.

Already, Siri can help users make peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers with Venmo, Alexa can pay off Capital One credit card bills, and Google Assistant can let users shop with their voice from nearby stores.

This is just the beginning. Today, 18 million US consumers have made a voice payment, and BI Intelligence projects that figure will quadruple over the next five years.
