Film Fondue: We know exactly how Star Wars: Episode VIII will begin

With less than a month to go until Batman v Superman hits theaters, the marketing machine is now in overdrive. In addition to several new TV spots, plenty of new information about the film has come out, revealing Lex Luthor’s manipulative ways and Superman’s delicate psyche. You’d think someone so powerful wouldn’t be vulnerable but it turns out he’s in an emotionally fragile state when the film roles around.

But not even gobs of new Batman v Superman info beats the arrival of the new Ghostbusters trailer. TechnoBuffalo got a chance to see it a day early and discuss the film with director Paul Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold, who are hoping to reach a new generation with the new team, which includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It looks hilarious and there are a lot of fun nods to the original, so things look promising in the early going.

Meanwhile, we got the chance to check out Disney Animation’s Zootopia ahead of its March 4 release here in the U.S., and it’s absolutely worth your time. Not only does it feature gorgeous animation but it’s hilarious, and it has a wonderful message, too. It perfectly captures the zeitgeist of today’s political landscape.

Star Wars: Episode VIII

Daisy Ridley revealed Episode VIII will pick up right where Episode VII left off, a first for Star Wars. Typically years pass between episodes, but given the cliffhanger audiences were left with, it would be weird for there to be a time jump. Ridley also revealed Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, is a delight to work with. Hopefully we’ll see much more of Luke when Episode VIII hits next December. [MTV]

Fox makes some announcements

Fox has some good news and some more good news. The good news is that we now have official release dates for two sci-fi projects coming in the next few years. The “more” part of this equation is a little more complicated

Up first, Predator has been scheduled to come out on March 2, 2018, while Alien: Covenant has been set for Aug. 4, 2017. Meanwhile, Fox has set dates for two mysterious projects, set for Oct. 6, 2017 and Jan. 12, 2018. Unfortunately, we have no idea what these movies might be.

Fox recently put Gambit on indefinite hiatus, so that could be one of them. The other might be Deadpool 2, which seems like a sure bet following the movie’s incredible box office success. [1, 2]

Angry Birds international trailer

Want to see new footage from the upcoming Angry Birds movie? Of course you do. Plenty of wonderful talent is involved in the flick but I can’t help but think this is a terrible, terrible idea. Who knows, it could be one of this year’s biggest surprises. We’ll find out when Angry Birds hits on May 20.

Legends of the Hidden Temple

If you didn’t grow up watching Nickelodeon’s Legends of the Hidden Temple, then you have no reason to get excited. But if you were a fan of the show, then you’ll be happy to hear the beloved property is getting rebooted as a TV movie. Below is the film’s synopsis:

In HIDDEN TEMPLE, three siblings must conquer a series of obstacles to remain alive, mirroring the theme of the original game show. The TV movie, slated to appear in the fourth quarter of 2016, will nod to other elements from the original show, including Olmec, a talking head who knows the secrets behind the temple; the Steps of Knowledge, the entrance to the temple and launching pad for the mission; and cameos from a green monkey, red jaguar and silver snakes, among others. Isabela Moner, known from her role on Nick’s 100 THINGS TO DO BEFORE HIGH SCHOOL, will star. The ARNOLD movies are slated to appear in 2017. [Variety]

Ice Age: Collision Course

A full trailer for Ice Age: Collision Course has been released. Let’s not pretend you didn’t chuckle at the opening bit. This will be the last movie in the Ice Age saga and it looks like it’s going out with a bang.

Big Hero 6 is getting a TV show

One of the best animated movies ever is coming to TV. Set to premiere in 2017 on Disney XD, the show will follow Hiro during his day-to-day life, but we’ll also see him, Baymax and the rest of the crew (Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Go Go) help protect San Fransokyo, the fictional city that merges San Francisco and Tokyo. Finding Dory

After several teasers, an official trailer for Finding Dory has been released. It’s cute and fun and features some familiar characters, but also introduces plenty of new faces. Finding Dory released on June 17, 2016.
