French football fans plan touching tribute to UK terror victims by singing ‘God Save The Queen’ and ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ tonight

French football fans have been urged to commemorate the victims of British terror attacks by singing “God Save the Queen” and an Oasis anthem ahead of Tuesday’s international friendly with England.

The words to the British national anthem will be displayed on the huge TV screens at the Stade de France, Paris, so French football fans can sing along in tribute to those who lost their lives in the Manchester and London atrocities.

Officials are also planning to play Oasis anthem “Don’t Look Back In Anger” before kick off.

France midfielder Blaise Matuidi said: “If the hymn of England is sung, everyone can accompany it.”

The tribute follows a similar show of unity when England welcomed France to Wembley Stadium, London, just four days after 130 people were killed during a series of co-ordinated terrorist attacks on Paris in 2015. French national anthem “La Marseillaise” was broadcast on big screens ahead of the kick-off.

“I was at the Wembley match [in 2015] and that was a very special occasion,” England boss Gareth Southgate said. “We are very grateful to the French for offering us this tribute. It’s nice that the history between us on the football pitch doesn’t come between us at these moments.

A minute’s silence will also be held at the 81,338 capacity Stade de France on Tuesday. Both national teams will also wear black armbands.

French president Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May are expected to be in attendance after discussing the terror attacks both countries have suffered, along with potential preventative measures.

There will be an increased security presence at Stade de France, with body searches and bag checks.
