Hero Flies Aerial Banner Over Ford Headquarters Asking For a Ford GT

Now that the application process for the Ford GT is open again, somebody has gone to great lengths to get the company’s attention by flying an aerial banner over Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan at lunch time.

Jalopnik received an anonymous tip from someone at Ford’s Dearborn headquarters earlier today with images showing an aerial banner reading “Is a Ford GT in my future?” including a “GoingFurther” hashtag slogan. The banner reportedly flew by around lunchtime today, according to our tipster, and a number of employees got a good look at the desperate plea for attention.

When the new Ford GT went on sale, the company took a page out of Ferrari’s playbook and decided to be very selective on who gets to drop nearly a half-million dollars on one, based on how good of a Ford brand ambassador the buyer would be.

A search of the hashtag included on the banner didn’t yield any seemingly relative results on Instagram, Twitter, nor Facebook. I’m not really sure how anyone at Ford is supposed to react to a stunt like this, as it seems rather difficult to determine who is behind the banner unless they’ve also coordinated sending another message to somebody at headquarters in the form of, you know, just a normal email or letter, or something.

It’s very likely whoever is behind this just hired the aerial banner through a pilot who does that sort of thing, but of course it could also be the person who owns the aerial banner service. I’m not sure aerial banners is a booming business in Michigan, but I honestly wouldn’t know.

A Ford spokesperson told Jalopnik, “We saw a plane with the banner outside of our World Headquarters mid-day but we have no way to identify the potential customer who would like to own a Ford GT. We hope even more applicants complete their applications by 8:00 a.m. Eastern Friday, Dec. 7 and encourage creative videos to support their applications instead of high-flying stunts.”

Ford’s Mike Levine also tweeted about the flyby earlier today:

Of course, it could also just be somebody wanting to throw some money at having some fun, who doesn’t have enough money to throw at Ford to convince them to hand over a new GT. I can relate to that. Better luck on the auction block?
