HTC Nexus “Sailfish” specs revealed in new leak

Summer has officially kicked off and that means it’s time for Nexus rumors to start flowing. On the heels of a hefty Nexus rumor a few months ago, a new report claims to have the full rundown on one of the Nexus phones being designed by HTC, a company that’s rumored to be in charge of two different Nexus phones this year.

According to Android Police, HTC’s Nexus phone, codenamed Sailfish, will fall on the lower end of the spectrum, although saying that in the year 2016 doesn’t mean much. Folks hoping to pick this device up can still anticipate a phone with some great internal specifications.

Here are a few of the rumored specs:

  • 5-inch 1080p display
  • Quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 2770mAh battery
  • 32GB of storage
  • 12-megapixel camera; 8-megapixel rear camera
  • Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • USB-C

Android Police goes on to say the device will feature bottom-firing speakers, a top-mounted headphone jack, and support Bluetooth 4.2. It’s unclear what the device is going to look like, but if it’s being created by HTC, expect it to feel familiar; HTC is also rumored to be working on a more advanced Nexus device known internally as Marlin.

Meanwhile, Huawei might be working on a new Nexus device, too, though we’re not entirely sure if Google really has plans for three different Nexus handsets. This could be an instance where Google covers the entire spectrum of low, mid, and high-end devices though I’d expect HTC’s Marlin to sport high-end specs, so I’m not really sure how this will play out.

In any case, the HTC Sailfish is sounding like a pretty good device, even if it doesn’t quite have the latest specs on the market. The only thing I’d be worried about is that small battery.

We don’t expect any new Nexus devices to drop until later this fall but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more information hit in the coming weeks.
