Huawei P10 rumored to feature one big change from the P9

Huawei just unveiled the P9 with its Leica-branded rear cameras a few months ago in April, and we only got our hands on the new phone earlier this month. But speculation around the follow-up Huawei P10 is already heating up, starting with one interesting tidbit of information.

According to a Weibo tipster the P10 could move the phone’s fingerprint sensor from the back panel to the front. The leaker notes that this seems to be the general trend of the industry and Huawei is simply following suit.

We actually really like the rear-facing fingerprint scanner on Huawei’s phones. It’s placed perfectly to catch your index finger as you pick the device up so by the time it reaches your face it’s already unlocked automatically. Front-facing scanners do have one big advantage, though; if your phone is laying flat on the table you can unlock it without needing to pick it up first.

The rest of the P10 is still a mystery, but it’s probably safe to expect high-end hardware and a premium design. The P9 already offers a beautiful metal frame, impressive cameras and plenty of power under the hood. We’re excited to see what the company does next, though the P10 probably won’t arrive until early 2017 at the soonest.
