Leaked iPhone 7 chassis hints at four speakers, larger camera

Photos of an alleged iPhone 7 chassis have surfaced ahead of the handset’s official debut this fall. They seemingly confirm the device will have four speakers — like the iPad Pro — and an improved iSight camera with a noticeably larger lens.

The photos, published by French website NowhereElse, don’t offer too many surprises; we’ve seen other iPhone 7 leaks that reveal a very similar design. They do strengthen claims that the device will have revamped antenna bands that aren’t so obvious from the back.

The images also crush hopes of a Smart Connector. Apple was expected to bring the new connector, which is currently only found on the iPad Pro, to its next-generation iPhones — but recent reports claimed that those plans have now been “shelved.”

The rear-facing camera cutout seen in these images is noticeably larger than that found on existing iPhones, which hints at a larger camera sensor for Apple’s latest models. However, there is no second cutout for an additional lens.

This all but confirms that Apple’s rumored dual-lens camera system will be exclusive to the larger iPhone 7 Plus. It seemed highly unlikely Apple would be able to fit this into the smaller iPhone 7 anyway, since it couldn’t even get optical image stabilization into the iPhone 6s.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus this September, and both handsets should be available soon after. We’re likely to see many more leaks just like this one before then.
