Remember when you were young and your dog ran away, and you always hoped it would come back while knowing deep down Rocko was actually dead? That’s how a lot of people feel about a new Mazdaspeed3 or Speed6, which Mazda has no plans to bring back for the current generation of either car.

Look kid, get over it. We’ve been waiting for what is practically an entire childhood for Mazda to announce a new ‘Speed version of the current generation Mazda3. Some of you may have even hoped for a Mazdaspeed6 return.

Well tough luck, because the automaker’s CEO of North American Operations Masahiro Moro says it’s just not going to happen, according to Australia’s Motoring.

If you think that’s bad, the reasoning behind not bringing a performance variant of the current generation of Mazda sedans is because previous executions were deemed “childish” by Moro. Ouch.

“Our research and development department is 100 per cent focused on delivering SKYACTIV generation two and if we don’t have this we don’t have any other derivatives,” Moro said.

“So let us focus on delivering SKYACTIV generation two, then we are building on that to come up with (performance models).

“So everyone waiting for that type of vehicle (MPS) and to be honest we are very happy our customers expect that of Mazda. We are always not making a big loud noise, but we always keep that in mind and sometimes bring it out.”

And also:

“Mazda brand has become more mature, more upscale, more sophisticated and we have a new transition of the brand to relate that direction.

On top of that, Motoring also reports that a current Mazdaspeed 3 was in the works to debut in concept form in 2015, but was instead scrapped for the China-only CX-4 crossover concept.

That’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever heard.

Moro didn’t establish a timeline, but when the new performance models debut he wants them to be more grown than what has come before, with hints that the company would start with a new (turbo?) rotary sports car similar to the RX-Vision Coupe we’re all in love with.

Mazda needs to ensure they continue to make money before you get to spend yours on a new ‘Speed3. The good news is you’ve got plenty of time to save up.

In the meantime, get your crazy torque steer needs from the Ford Focus ST.
