Microsoft is bringing Tap to Pay to Windows 10 Mobile

Microsoft Windows 10 for Phone-2

Microsoft has confirmed that it is bringing Tap to Pay to Windows 10 Mobile this summer with Microsoft Wallet 2.0. The feature will utilize NFC just like Android Pay and Apple Pay.

Wallet 2.0 will be available inside Microsoft’s big Anniversary Update. User will be able to add credit and debit cards as well as loyalty cards and tickets, which can then be used in retail stores that carry NFC-compatible payment terminals.

When first launched, the Wallet 2.0 app will check to see if you have any cards already linked to your Microsoft Account. To set them up for Tap to Pay, you’ll receive a verification SMS that will help confirm you are the card holder.

There is a long list of merchants that will support Tap to Pay, including Barnes & Noble, Bloomingdales, CVS, GameStop, JCPenney, Lowes, Office Depot, Petco, Rite Aid, Safeway, Sports Authority, Staples, and Walgreens.

Microsoft hasn’t confirmed whether Tap to Pay will be a U.S. exclusive initially, or whether it will also be available in other countries. However, the list of supported retailers is certainly focused on the U.S.

Wallet 2.0 won’t officially be available until this summer, but those who test Windows 10 preview releases may get a chance to test it early.
