Microsoft Surface 3 prepares for the grave

It’s that time of year when products are starting to get discontinued to make room for the latest batch. Apple’s Thunderbolt display is officially on its way out, the regular MacBook Pro is in hospice and, now, it sounds like Microsoft’s opening the coffin for the Surface 3.

Thurott.comrecently reported that stock at Microsoft Stores was beginning to dwindle, a usual sign that a product is about to be killed off or replaced. Microsoft quickly responded, noting that the Surface 3 is indeed on its last legs. “Since launching the Surface 3 over a year ago, we have seen strong demand and satisfaction amongst our customers,” Microsoft said. “Inventory is now limited and by the end of December 2016, we will no longer manufacture Surface 3 devices.”

We think Microsoft will probably introduce a new Surface Pro model by that time, but we’re not sure if it’ll launch a new Surface as well. We hope so, since we appreciate the smaller form factor that, while not as powerful as the Pro products, still offers a full Windows 10 experience.
