Microsoft’s final Windows 10 upgrade reminder is its most annoying

Microsoft’s free upgrade offer for Windows 10 is expiring at the end of this month, which means those pesky popups asking you to update your PC will disappear. But not before Microsoft rolls out one final reminder, which is by far its most annoying yet.

As you can see from the screenshot above, the final Windows 10 upgrade reminder is a full-screen one. It takes over your entire display to warn you that Windows 10 is only free until July 29, and to point out that you can downgrade should you want to.

“Microsoft recommends upgrading to Windows 10—the most secure Windows ever built,” it reads. “The upgrade is free and you can easily roll-back to your currently operating system within 31 days if you decide Windows 10 is not right for you.”

The reminder is likely to appear for anyone running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, and some say it pops up more than once.

That’s likely because most people are clicking the “Remind me later” button to dismiss the popup quickly. However, in the bottom left corner, there’s also a “Do not notify me again” option, which should prevent the popup from reappearing.

The good news is, if you have no interest in updating to Windows 10, the reminders should finally stop on July 29. After this date, Windows 10 will start at $120 for the Home edition, while Windows 10 Pro will cost $200.
