Naughty Dog updates fans about Uncharted and Last of Us movies

If you’ve ever played any of Naughty Dog’s more recent works, whether in the Uncharted or The Last of Us series, you know that they’re built like films, albeit much longer and more interactive. They are cinematic experiences.

Movies have been planned for both franchises, too. Uncharted has a June 30, 2017, release date, even. But how far are they along in production? Not that far, it seems.

Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog, spoke with IGN about both flicks and how the studio has been involved with their creation.

“Every once in a while they’ll come in and they’ll present to us: here’s the script, here’s what we’re thinking. We’ll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn’t work…

…That’s where we’re at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven’t seen anything in a while.”

IGN noted that Naughty Dog is keen to make sure the Uncharted movie features a strong relationship between Nate, Sully and Elena. As fans know, those core relationships are crucial to the games.

“Our approach is just to steer them back to those relationships…The most important part to get right is Nathan Drake, Nathan Drake’s relationship with Elena and Nathan Drake’s relationship with Sullivan. If you don’t get that right, I don’t think the film’s going to work. If you get that core right, there’s a chance it could work.”

As for The Last of Us as a move? According to Druckmann, “there hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.” Sorry, fans.
