NYPD Patrol Car Dons Rainbow Livery After Orlando For New York Pride

Security at this year’s NY Heritage of Pride Parade will come with a strong display of solidarity with the LGBT community. It’s nice to see the police lead with an inclusive example, and frankly, the car looks good this way.

As you can see, this Interceptor Utility, also known as a cop-spec Ford Explorer, has been re-livery’d in rainbow. The slogan on the side of the rear door, which reads “Courtesy Professionalism Respect” on standard NYPD vehicles has been replaced with “Pride Equality Peace.” Presumably the ash tray is stocked with Fruit Stripe gum.

DeBlasio described the vehicle as “a show of the NYPD’s deep connection to this community and communities all over the city” in a press conference. “This year we have an obligation to our nation in the wake of Orlando to show what pride and inclusion looks like. And the whole city will be celebrating and standing up for and with our LGBT community.”

The mayor posited that no “specific threats” to the annual Pride event planned for this Sunday but NYPD Commissioner William Bratton said the department would increase size of police detail this year light of the recent shooting at a gay club in Orlando that left dozens dead.
