Pixel C owners experience random reboots after May update

Some Pixel C owners are experiencing random reboots after installing Google’s latest security patch. The reboots appear to be happening at random, and are said to occur every five to 30 minutes when the Pixel C is disconnected from its charger.

“It seems possible that the issue is connected to Doze Mode or some similar power-saving measure, since the reboots are happening when users aren’t actively using the tablet and the screen is off,” reports Android Police.

A similar problem has also been experienced with Google’s second Android N preview, which rolled out to testers last month — but most assumed it was simply because the software was still in beta, and then they flashed back to Marshmallow.

It’s still unclear if Google is aware of this problem; there are threads reporting it on the official Google Product Forum and at code.google.com — but they are yet to get an official response. The company will surely rollout a fix once the issue is acknowledged and addressed.

Until then, it’s probably best to avoid the May security patch if you haven’t already installed it. Not all users are being affected by the problem, but it’s not really worth the risk. And if you have updated, rolling back to the update Google issues in April should fix things.
