A roll cage is one of the most essential parts of a race car, and having one made well can literally save your butt. Did you ever wonder what all of the steps involved in building one of these beauties look like? Wonder no more.

Here, JR Garage is working on a small hatchback. Not only do the pipes get bent into shape, but so do the metal gussets for the doors and behind the front seats. Sometimes the car needs to be grinded on or cut away so that roll cage components can fit right into place. There’s even a circular form to pound in the round indentations into the gussets.

Everything is made just so to fit together, and I’m a little jealous of some of the tools he uses to get everything installed so neatly. JR even signs his work at the end with a custom tag. Cool.
