Samsung Pay will soon offer one feature Apple Pay already has

Samsung Pay is already the best mobile payments option if you own one of the company’s four latest flagship phones and, starting next year, the service is set to expand into new areas.

Speaking to Reuters, Samsung Pay co-manager Thomas Ko revealed plans to launch on more devices and a new online shopping option. He didn’t offer an exact timeline, but promised the updates are “coming soon.” At the very least they’ll roll out “within the next year.” The online shopping option might work a bit like Apple Pay, allowing you to confirm your identity with a fingerprint and then checkout using stored financial data.

Samsung Pay is already set to work on the recently announced series of mid-range Galaxy A devices, including the Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A9. It already works with 2015 flagship phones such as the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung’s mobile payments app is still limited to the U.S. and South Korea, though the company plans to expand to new markets, including China, next year. Samsung Pay is also expected to hit Europe before too long, though Ko wouldn’t comment on any plans for international expansion.

Samsung Pay has been pretty successful since launching early this year. The company boasted strong numbers in Korea, and claims that U.S. customers who tried the service used it about eight times on average within the first four weeks. We’re excited to see what comes next as the mobile payments app becomes more widely available.
