The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro Is Most Hardcore Yet With Big Aero

The new 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro has no more power than standard, but weight-reducing carbon fiber and big aero help make it the most hardcore version of the SLS-successor yet.

The new Pro is about six seconds faster around the Ring than the basic version of the GT R (no dash), which shows how much the rest of the car is at work here.

The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 remains unchanged with 557 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. What’s new is the carbon fiber chin spoiler, splitter, fender vents, side skirts, rear wing and other rear… appendages? Not sure what you would call these. Winglets? Whatever.

There are new adjustable coilovers, as well as a carbon fiber torsion bar at the front and spherical bearings in the upper front wishbones.

Add to that is an optional full steel roll cage and four-point belts. The record car had all gold belts, but it’s unclear if you can get your four-points in this most appropriate color.

All that I find annoying is that AMG isn’t giving us the exact specs on how much weight was reduced in this car, particularly given that it has a carbon roof and carbon brakes standard. Give us the specs.
