Have you ever found yourself in the quandary of having to choose between a coupe and a convertible? Did you suffer from soul-draining fear of missing out on the 2011 Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato? Well it’s fine, because it’s back again as a beautiful coupe and speedster.

So there, all problems solved.

The 2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato was a limited production model based on the Vantage V12 of the time, built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. If you’re like me, it’s probably become the car you picture in your head when you think of Zagato, and I think of Zagato a lot.

It’s back again as a new, limited production street legal speedster and coupe which have been dubbed the “Aston Martin Vantage V12 Zagato Heritage Twins by R-Reforged.” The good news is that Aston says there’ll only be 19 of each body style built, 38 total (math!), so the chances you’ll see one and be involuntarily forced to blurt out that long-ass name are slim.

The press release doesn’t give any specs, so we don’t have a ton to go on. For at least a bit of context, the old 2011 car had Aston’s top 12 at the time, with 510 horsepower from 5.9 liters 420 lb-ft of torque and a claimed top speed of around 190 mph.

Judging by the press release, it seems the only real purpose behind reintroducing the V12 Zagato, beyond blessing us with a few more examples of its stunning design, is to celebrate Zagato’s 100th anniversary and to announce the R-Reforged brand, which has some racing history with Aston Martin. Here’s how the announcement explains it:

Emotion, passion, vision – these are the qualities that set AF Racing AG apart. The fledgling motorsport company came to prominence in 2018 when its R-Motorsport racing team won the three-hour Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup race at Silverstone.

Furthermore, AF Racing AG holds the exclusive licence of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. to run and compete in the Class One regulated DTM racing series. In addition to its ever-growing presence in motorsport, the Swiss company is also involved in the automotive sector.

Along with Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, AF Racing is a strategic partner of the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar project.

Through its R-Motorsport team, AF Racing AG is 2019 both active in international GT3 competitions as well as in the DTM. R-Motorsport is also the motor racing division of Aston Martin St Gallen, the only exclusive Aston Martin Racing dealer in Switzerland and a company affiliated with AF Racing AG. With its sister brand R-Reforged, AF Racing AG is active in the business of vehicle refinement and associated small-scale series production.

So it would seem R-Reforged is a new brand affiliated with AF Racing AG for specialized production cars, banking on its motorsport heritage.

The cars will be built by Vynamic GmbH, a subsidiary of AF Racing AG which also operates the previously mentioned Class One Aston Martin Vantage DTM car, and will be delivered near the end of this year.

I’m obsessed with the roadster design. There should be a new Zagato introduced every Friday. Just an idea.
