After yesterday’s drama about Chris Evans reportedly making a producer weep, we decided to reach out to the BBC to figure out what the heck is going on with Top Gear’s host replacement. They finally got back with us today, saying that Chris Evans is basically a modern day Jesus Christ. But they would say that, wouldn’t they?
Yesterday we reported a story from British tabloid The Sunwhich asserted that Chris Evans was acting like an obnoxious diva. This report built on the source’s earlier story that Top Gear was turning into a bit of a shit-show.
Well, it looks like the BBC would prefer nightfall, because in its statement on the manner, the broadcaster clearly expressed its displeasure with The Sun, saying:

The Sun’s continued assertion that Chris Evans’ behaviour at Radio 2 since beginning work at Top Gear has been in any way below BBC acceptable levels is completely untrue.
The BBC continued laying into the tabloid, saying:
The Sun, for its own reasons, continues on a weekly, sometimes daily basis to publish negative stories about Top Gear and unfounded nonsense about Chris, which is no longer worth any serious consideration or response.
Then the public service broadcaster began showering Evans with compliments, saying:

Since taking on Top Gear alongside his Radio 2 breakfast show, Chris has displayed even greater commitment and professionalism. He remains a team player, a huge asset to the BBC and continues to show outstanding leadership in all he does on Radio, Television or for Children in Need.
Hear that, people? Children! The man likes children. Who can both simultaneously like children and be a jerk? I’m fairly certain there are biological restraints in nature banning such a coupling of character traits.
So there you have it, Chris Evans-from-the-heavens is an angel, and The Sun is just a mean publication propagating hate. Because obviously, the BBC wouldn’t lie to us, right? It’s not like they have incentive to convince the public that their show is going well.

Okay, let’s be honest, the truth is probably somewhere in between the rumored extremes. The tabloid has reason to report about sensational feuds and squabbles, and theBBC probably has some motivation to make the public think they’re not running a giant dumpster fire.

Who knows if we’ll ever find out whether this guy is really a jerk. If I ever get a chance, maybe I’ll just ask him.
