Fallout 4’s Creation Kit is now in open beta on PC

Modders gonna mod. When games hit PC, clever gamers will find ways to make the games bend to their will. Even without any official tools from Bethesda, people have made some pretty broad changes to Fallout 4, disabling annoying missions, adding old-school sensibilities, and even throwing in the Macho Man, Randy Savage.

Official mod tools open up the option to create game content for a wide audience, though, and as of now those tools are available in beta for PC players, Bethesda announced.

If you’re partaking in the beta patches for Fallout 4, you’ll be able to download the Creation Kit via the Fallout 4 launcher. You’ll be able to search for mods, as well as post feedback, mark favorites, and install mods from within the game via the main menu.

To access the beta, follow the instructions provided by Bethesda:

How to access the 1.5 Update in Steam Beta:

• Log into Steam

• Right Click on Fallout 4 in your Library

• Select Settings

• Select Betas

• A drop down menu will appear. Select beta

• Select OK

• Wait a few minutes and Fallout 4 should update

• When done, Fallout 4 should appear as Fallout 4 [Beta] in your Library

Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will see mods in May and June respectively. Any mods created via the creation kit should, in theory, be visible across all platforms once the software is in place.

Bethesda hopes the universal platform “changes console gaming the way it has changed PC.” If it’s adopted and given continued love and care, that really could be the case. This isn’t the first time someone’s brought game mods to consoles, but it might be the most fleshed out.
