This smart mirror is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen

There have been “smart” glasses, “smart” bulbs, and even “smart” utensils. But why the heck can’t I buy a smart mirror? After seeing the video below this post, you’ll be wondering the same thing. I want one, and I want it now.

Smart mirrors have been around for a while now—we’ve detailed a few before. But what’s so amazing is how the new ones that pop up always seem to outdo the last. Not only does this one tell the time and weather, but it can launch apps, control the Nest, and even hail an Uber. And it supports multi-touch!

The mirror was built by software engineer Ryan Nelwan, and it looks cooler than any glasses or watches I’ve seen in the past few years. Seriously, why I can’t buy this is beyond me. I’d love to have something a smart mirror in my apartment so I’m not so reliant on my phone when I wake up.

Nelwan doesn’t reveal how he made the mirror, though he apparently has instructions on how to do so, which he’s going to post on Medium. People are already begging Nelwan to start a Kickstarter for this product, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him do it. At the very least, maybe it’ll inspire a few others to finally give us the smart mirror of our dreams.

Check out the video for yourself to see why the mirror is so damn cool. There have been some voices of skepticism about the mirror’s authenticity—one Reddit user provided evidence that Nelwan was using a green screen and some other tricks to dupe the internet—so hopefully we’ll get some clarification from Nelwan soon.
