Tour the Buckingham Palace in VR right now

The Royal Collection Trust recently announced that Buckingham Palace has been selected by students as the first “Google Expeditions” experience in the UK. Google Expeditions allows students to wear virtual reality headsets to travel out of the classroom and into one of many amazing places around the world; it currently includes 150 different destinations. Until now, however, it seems that the UK wasn’t represented. Hey, if you can’t afford to take your whole class to the palace, this could be the next best thing.

“The Buckingham Palace Expedition takes you on a tour of some of the Palace’s State Rooms, simulating the experience of walking through the rooms and seeing the works of art from the Royal Collection that furnish them,” the Royal Collection Trust said Wednesday. ” Starting at the Grand Staircase, students learn about the history of the Palace as a royal residence, before discovering how the State Rooms are used today by The Queen for official events.”

A virtual reality tour is available through YouTube and can be viewed on a smartphone, though will work best with something like Google Cardboard. Check it out below.
