Warcraft becomes the most successful video game film ever, even after 72.7% drop

Two massive statistics from the Warcraft movie following a weekend of both highs and lows.

First of all, the film is now the most successful video game adaptation of all time, crossing $377 million worldwide with a $200 million chunk of that box office success coming from China. Warcraft replaces the previous record holder, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which sat on top with a figure of $336 million.

However, the bad news is that the word is out on this film. It’s a stinker, and poor reviews have also lead to the third largest 2nd week drop in history. The film only pulled in $6.5 million, making it a 73 percent drop over the previous week. Comparisons to DOOM (72.7%), the 2009 Friday 13th reboot (80.4%), and Fifty Shades of Grey (73.9%) have been made in regards to the film’s rapid decline.
