Watch A Flooded River Turn A Jeep Wrangler Into A Submarine

Engineers designed the JK Jeep Wrangler to ford water up to a depth 2.5 feet. Yesterday, in New Braunfels, Texas, one Wrangler looks to have exceeded that rating big time after being swept away by a raging torrent. It was all caught on video, so if you’re a Jeep lover, prepare to weep.

We don’t know much about this video, other than what’s in the Facebook video description written by Kim Jacob. Kim says a man decided to park his Jeep at the edge of a Guadalupe river crossing to check on his tent.

By the time he returned, the Archimedes Principle was working in full-force, sending his Jeep floating down the raging river. The full video description reads:

A guy wanted to check his tent, so he parked his jeep and waded across the bridge when it was just starting to run and only knee deep. (After being told not to and that the canyon was going to flood.)

It continues:

All at once a huge wall of water came and the video shows the result. We went down into the campgrounds to tell him his Jeep was being washed away. He came and sat on the tiers in front of our house to watch it go.

If I had seen the Jeep get sucked into the river, I’d likely have responded the same way I did when I flooded my own Jeep: I’d have curled into the fetal position and wept. But the lady in the video keepers her cool, and even makes it seem like this is a common occurrence, saying only “dadgummit.”

Dadgummit, indeed.
