Welkin Road looks like Mirror’s Edge’s amazing time trial levels

Welkin Road is a first-person, running, puzzling, grapple-hooking platformer. The game is being published by Nkidu, and it’s bound for an Early Access release on Steam on April 13, 2016.

Its potential inspiration is almost immediately obvious; the game takes some hints from Mirror’s Edge. Though, to me, it seems Welkin Road is more informed by Mirror’s Edge‘s time trial stages than anything else.

Here’s an incredible world record run from Mirror’s Edge‘s time trial mode posted back in 2009. What a beautiful game this was.

The difference between Mirror’s Edge and the Early Access form of Welkin Road, as far as I’m concerned, is the way the hands move. Welkin Road is very static, whereas Mirror’s Edge is fluid and changing. It feels more like free running. Perhaps that’s something developer Gregor Panič plans to change. Heck, with the way Early Access works, that change could be asked for from fans, too.

We’ll have more on Welkin Road as it comes. If you want us to dive in with some gameplay of our own, sound off in the comments below.
