You won’t see this Ford police car until it’s pulling you over

With Ford’s latest technology, you might not notice a police officer has been tailing you until it’s too late and you’re being pulled over.

Ford recently announced new interior visor lighting for its highly-popular Police Interceptor Utility vehicle that’s barely noticeable until it’s active. The goal isn’t really to trick the public, though. Instead, the new lights should be less bulky, allowing for more room in the cabin for police officers.

“Today, agencies typically use aftermarket interior visor light bars that are somewhat bulky and can obstruct the field of vision – especially for taller officers,” Ford police marketing manager Stephen Tyler said. “This extremely low-profile unit is fully integrated where the headliner and top of the windshield meet, for tremendously improved driver visibility versus aftermarket alternatives.”

Existing Police Interceptor vehicles can be outfitted with the new lights, too. Ford says it’ll just remove the dark shade at the top of the windshield and pop in clear glass, allowing for the lights to shine through more effectively.
