Your Windows desktop is now available in virtual reality

Now you never have to take off your VR headset while using your PC, because your Windows desktop has entered virtual reality. Everything you do on your computer — web browsing, watching Netflix and more — can now be done in an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive.

It’s thanks to a new application called Virtual Desktop, and although it’s in its infancy, it’s pretty spectacular. You can use it not only to view your desktop in virtual reality, but also to watch movies from any source, and to play games that aren’t even built for VR.

Virtual Desktop basically means you never have to take your VR headset off while at your PC (although you probably shouldn’t wear it all day). It’s compatible with both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, and it’s available from Steam via the source link below for $14.99.

Users have reported some minor bugs with Virtual Desktop — which will be ironed out in future updates. But overall, the experience appears to be pretty smooth and stable, as you’ll see in the trailer video below.

I don’t know about you, but this app makes me want a proper virtual reality headset even more.
