For years, the soccer world has wondered when Zlatan Ibrahimovic would finally make a move to the Premier League.

The answer came on Thursday as Zlatan formally announced that he will play next year for Manchester United and try to help the club become champions once again.

Zlatan confirmed the decision on his Instagram.

For any normal soccer player, a move to the English Premier League, let alone Manchester United, is a dream come true. For Zlatan, however, it’s simply “the next step.” But this “next step” truly is a step up for Zlatan.

Many soccer fans and experts will say that the EPL is the world’s “hardest” league given the large number of quality teams that compete in it. And Ibrahimovic has never played in a league with as strong competition as the Premier League will surely offer.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has always been known as one of the world’s best strikers, but the one knock is that those skills haven’t been tested on the biggest stage in soccer. That is about to change.

And therein lies the rub: If Zlatan Ibrahimovic can perform at the same level that he always has at Manchester United, no one will be able to question whether his talents truly match up against the best of the best.

As SB Nation’s Conor Dowley writes, “Zlatan is finally coming to England after spending years dominating in Italy and France, with a year in Spain thrown in for good measure. He’s long wanted to see how he stands up against the best of the Premier League, and he’s finally going to get his chance.”

We’re about to learn more about Zlatan.
