Yes, this is apparently a full-blown “thing” now. Take a sentimental, ironic, or novelty pop song, and put it in the trailer for your non-related entertainment product. Remix may or may not be required. We saw it with the Suicide Squad trailer using “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Guardians of the Galaxy with “Hooked on a Feeling,” and Dark Souls II even played into this two years ago when it set a trailer to Jethro Tull’s “Locomotive Breath.”
This time, we’re back with Dark Souls III set to none of other than Cyndi “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” Lauper’s “True Colors.” It’s a bit of a remix, but it falls right in line with this silly trend, which I haven’t decided if I like or not.
What I have decided is that I am already in love with Dark Souls III, and I think it’s going to tower over the divisive Dark Souls II in so many ways. Better graphics, better setting, better level and monster design, just better everything. Here’s to hoping I’m right, and FromSoftware takes its revolutionary series out with a bang!
Dark Souls III will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 24.
