Dark Souls III will hit 60fps on PCs

The Dark Souls series has been a hit with fans across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. On the latter, though, the relationship has been one of troubled ports, defunct game services, and game-changing fan mods. Now it seems that at least the bad ports part might be a thing of the past.

Dark Souls III won’t be locked to a particular frame rate as it has been in the past, according to the official Dark Souls Twitter.

Forget what you’ve heard. #DarkSouls3 will run at 60 FPS on PC! https://t.co/h8O21GTxR8

Dark Souls II could run at 60 frames per second, but it had a weird side effect. It turns out that weapon durability was influenced by frame rate. With a doubled frame rate, your weapons spent twice as many frames inside an enemy and would thus deteriorate twice as fast. That’s the kind of weird mechanical workaround that works fine on consoles, but will show up glaringly on PCs.

This time around, it sounds like they’re taking that sort of thing into account and providing a game PC gamers can be proud of – we hope.

We’ll see when Dark Souls III hits the US on April 12.
