When creating a believable world for Game of Thrones, it takes an unbelievable amount of work. Everything from the costumes to the sets makes a significant difference for immersion, but it’s a makeup that’s perhaps the biggest challenge, especially for a show that features such a wide variety of characters.
In a new featurette, the artists behind the show’s prosthetics take viewers through the lengthy process, which involves an ungodly amount of patience and attention to detail. If you thought putting rubber faces on actors wasn’t challenging enough, you’ll be surprised at what it takes to take them off.
Seeing a video like this provides a lot of great insight into what it takes to make a believable White Walker, and how much skill a person needs in order to create just one mask. It really gives you a new perspective and level of respect for what these people do.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO on Saturday, April 24.
