Netflix’s Voltron reboot gets it first teaser trailer

I’m not entirely sure who Netflix’s Voltron: Legendary Defender is aimed at, but the first teaser is definitely working on me.

This first teaser is a purely visual experience, showing off the CG-fueled animation that will bring the defender of the universe back to life. If you don’t remember or weren’t alive for Voltron: Defender of the Universe, all you need to know was explained in Deadpool: five mini lion bots come together to form one super bot.

Whether it’s aimed at kids of the 1980s like me or the younger audience just getting into anime, this first teaser suggests that at least the look of the robot sticks pretty closely to the original design. The show is being directed and produced by Joaquim Dos Santos, who has directed series like Justice League: Unlimited, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and GI Joe: Resolute. Most recently, he worked on The Legend of Korra.

The show is set to hit Netflix in just a couple months – get ready to activate interlocks and and connect dynotherms when it launches on June 10.
